About us
Location Promotion Winterthur Region (Standortförderung Region Winterthur) is an independent association dedicated to promoting Winterthur and its surroundings as a place for living and education as well as doing business in. Its key tasks are communicating Winterthur’s advantages and assisting those who wish to establish a business or make the city or its surroundings their home. The services provided include advice for individuals and companies already domiciled in Winterthur and those considering such a move, as well as support in the search for a suitable home, commercial property or undeveloped land. As an initiator and a point of contact for innovative ideas, the organization also provides start-up help and accompanies projects.
Location Promotion Winterthur Region (Standortförderung Region Winterthur) was founded, as the first organization of its kind, in 1994 under the name of City Marketing Winterthur. After collaboration with the surrounding municipalities was intensified from 2004 on, the association changed its name to Location Promotion Winterthur Region in February 2007. It is supported by the cities of Winterthur and Illnau-Effretikon, 21 other municipalities in the surroundings, business associations and private sector companies.
Targets

- conducts business promotion, residential marketing and location promotion as well as education promotion
- contributes to the enhancement of economic prosperity in the city and its surroundings
- is the first port of call for all questions relating to Winterthur as a business, education and residential location
- networks key players in the region and provides a neutral platform for existing issues, working on possible solutions and assisting the parties concerned
Responsibilities /measures
Location Promotion Winterthur Region…
- provides advice and assistance to companies and private individuals wishing to become domiciled or resident in Winterthur or its surroundings
- supports and advises companies and residents in Winterthur with regard to enhancing the appeal of the Winterthur region as a place to work and live in
- provides assistance in the search for residential and commercial property or land for development
- cultivates contacts with companies or individuals who have indicated an interest in moving to Winterthur
- supports measures that raise the attraction of Winterthur as a residential location
- initiates and supports projects promoting Winterthur as a business location
- conducts targeted public relations, takes parts in relevant fairs and launches marketing measures and events
- lobbies for the interests of Winterthur and its surroundings at relevant political bodies such as the cantonal location promotion office, the Greater Zurich Area organization and OSEC
- supports knowledge exchange between universities and business
- promotes the development of growth industries and economic clusters
- helps enhance Winterthur’s standing as a business, research and academic hub
